THE SECRET DOORS

The door is the threshold’s best guardian; it protects its access. But at the same time, doesn’t it inscribe in its structure or in its shape the architectural synthesis of the secret place; and therefore the secret of the door by the same way?

The secret doors series is the result of a personal adventure in the world of the representation of a pictorial universe linked to archetypes, the threshold notion, openness, unveiling and decryption. Though some art pieces stay rectangular, many show a more architectural structure, more complex, with symmetry or equilibrium in mind.

The secret doors were born from a former project entitled The secret of the island, where each island-canvas were already an open door to an ocean of mythologies and legends. And the islands were also made from an exploratory series: Tarokado, contemporary interpretation of the different tarot arcana’s. The projects are born from one giving birth the other, stand together and communicate, in other words, by different paths they go from one room to an other. The doors are already there, in this path, from Tarokado to The secret of the island and to The secret doors, emphasizing the evolutionary aspect and the “test field like” side of some places.

What I wished from this new project is to stress on a given itinerary, made from foundling enigmas and multiple images. At first, there is the front door and traveling comes next, going through each door, through the secret doors, and after the main door to finally reach at last the time mobility door. This last one is showing the timeline like on a scroll, witness of the centuries passing by. The laying of simple mechanisms allows interactivity with the “guest”. This work of art is build with a window that carries a retractable door, which once opened, shows us a painted scroll. This one can be manipulated with the rotation of the “time arrow”, that we can see in the lower side of the canvas. The entire art piece invites to a walk back in time, to a quest of coherence, resting on some traces, pinpoints and tracks that we can find here and there. The “crossing” depends on each of us, the way we see, the steps we make through each door. The present is only the most visible part of the time going by, and painting, is, on some aspects, relieving from an attempt: dragging your attention on strange play at stakes of our colored world, a transformed vision for sure, even mind-boggling, a vision that keeps on willing, in its way, seeing the other side of the wall.
